With 20 years of work experience, domestic housekeepers will earn from R6 056 to R15 917 monthly. This is the conclusion of research carried out by Mywage.co.za, in 2023.
Inexperienced domestic housekeepers earn hourly wage between R22 and R43
Based on our survey, workers in this occupation with 30 years of work experience earn the highest salary: between R6 333 and R17 650 per month. Workers in this occupation starting out on the job, with 1 year of experience, can expect to earn between R22 and R43 per hour.
14% says they are male, while 86% entered female as their gender. Of the workers who participated in the survey, 43% have no children. The age group for employees who answered the survey was mostly between 30 and 39 years of age.
Coverage by collective bargaining amongst employees is 3%, while 97% are not covered by a collective agreement, according to our survey. People in this job work 32 hours per week on average.
Coworkers mostly female
11% of all participating employees work in a multinational organisation. In most cases, people in this job report that the majority of their coworkers are female. 32% of people in this job have worked fewer than 5 years since their first job. 38% of workers state that they have no permanent contract for their job. The majority of employees work in organisations of 100-500 employees. Workers who have a permanent contract for the work they are performing, add up to 62%.
In the survey, 11% of the employees choose 'highly satisfied' as their job satisfaction level. On the whole, workers feel in between satisfied and dissatisfied about their job. This feeling is shared by 33% of the workers.
Of all surveyed employees, 26% feel highly dissatisfied about their salary. Generally, 43% of the people in this job report they are dissatisfied with their salary.
