The 2017 Emmy Awards are out, with big winners including The Handmaids’ Tale and Veep. But we wonder, how much are the Celebrity Salaries that happen behind the scenes?
Some of the awards that went to The Handmaid’s Tale included Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Elizabeth Moss), while Veep won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series prize went to Sterling K. Brown in This is Us. The Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series was Donald Glover in Atlanta. TV Celebrity Salaries are sometimes lower than Film Celebrity Salaries, but they are still pretty high. For example: Ty Burrell from Modern Family (who was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series this year) earns just under R14 million monthly. Alec Baldwin, who was the winner in that category for his Saturday Night Live work, earns just under R9 million a month. Other Celebrity Salaries include Reese Witherspoon, who was nominated as an Outstanding Actress Little Big Lies, who earns around R3 million monthly, and Sofia Vergara, also from Modern Family, who earns a whopping R45 million monthly.
Film Actor Salaries
In comparison, have a look at the Male Film Actor Salaries that feature some of our biggest celebrities: Robert Downey Junior picks up R53 million a month for his Iron Man and other jobs. Comedian Adam Sandler takes home R55 million a month for his comedic capers. Matt Damon earns around R60 million a month for his various film projects. Daniel Radcliff (Harry Potter) earns R77 million monthly, which is part of the royalties he gets from the film franchise, and also payment for more recent projects.
Female Film Actor Salaries tend to be a bit less, but they are still healthy: Angelina Jolie averages just on R20 million a month for her different film work. Emma Watson (Hermoine in Harry Potter) picks up around R22 million a month. Scarlett Johansson finds that being a superhero gets her R27 million a month. Jennifer Lawrence will never go hungry with R50 million a month. And talk show host but also actress Oprah Winfrey tops the list with a super-sized R90 million a month.
Interestingly, one would think that the Celebrity Salary of a film director would be lots more, and sometimes it is the case: Michael Bay, director of such hits as Bad Boys, The Rock and Transformers, earns R88 million a month. And the biggest bucks of all go to award-winning director Steven Spielberg, who takes home R110 million monthly.
