The MyWage team checked the earnings of domestic workers and cleaners over the world.

According to the survey, a fulltime working domestic worker or cleaner in South Africa gets $2.74 gross per hour and $2.36 net per hour. In the UK, workers earn almost five times more ($13.6 gross per hour). And while there are big differences in the wages of nurses in Russia and South Africa, domestic workers earnings are almost the same. Russian domestic workers are paid $0.18 less than workers in South Africa.

Denmark took first place in the list of highest domestic workers’ wages, Tanzania the last place with only $0.68 gross per hour.

An average domestic worker or cleaner in South Africa can buy 0.7 of a Big Mac per hour of work. It is more than in all the Eastern countries analyzed, but still much less than in Europe. Danish workers can afford 2.7 Big Macs per hour, and in the UK they can buy 2.4 Big Macs.
